Work with us: Operations & Events Manager / Maternity Contract

We are looking for a superstar Operations & Events Manager to work with us over a very exciting period.
The Heke is a family-owned venue, set on 4 acres of gardens, and is the brand home of Waiheke Whisky and Waiheke Brewing co. Our cellar-door restaurant is busy year-round and our new world-class visitor centre is open for guests and events. We host family & corporate events, and tourist groups, along with our fantastic loyal locals.
This is a full-time maternity cover role from September 2024 to July 2025. There is also potential for an ongoing long-term role as we grow. These are big shoes to fill as our current star was our very first employee and has grown to be a key part of the team here.
This role looks after our day to day operations here, along with reservations & events, liaising with the rest of the team including FOH and BOH and the owners.
You are the cog in the wheel here; you know where things are, or where to get them. You will manage a list of suppliers and be the eyes and ears here during the day. It is both a behind the scenes role, as well as a customer-facing role. You’ll be exceptionally responsive, answering phones and emails, helping guests plan their visit, helping tour operators book in their groups, and trouble shooting on the go.
We are tech-savvy so you need to be able to pick up new platforms and be familiar with the hospitality and tourism sectors.
Summer is busy here so you’ll need to work across the summer season including the busy event period before Christmas, and school holidays. While there is some flexibility the working hours are generally Monday-Friday 8 am - 4 pm.

A range of skills including reservations, event management, stakeholder management.
Some experience with day to day software is ideal - you can manage busy inboxes, a basic spreadsheet and if you can use Adobe suite to make simple menu updates etc, that’s handy.

Accounting or people management role - no rostering or hiring.
