Drop off your old mobile phone here

Keep your mobile phone out of landfill and raise funds for Sustainable Coastlines at the same time through the RE:MOBILE phone recycling scheme! So search out your office desk or kitchen junk drawer and come on in.

We live on an island so it's no wonder we're keen to help keep the Hauraki Gulf clean. Drop your old phones to us, and we can all help minimise waste and raise funds for the work that SC do. It's a win-win-win.

Re:Mobile provide the collection box, and The Heke is helping promote the scheme and ‘host’ the collection box. Recycling disused mobile phones via this scheme generates revenue, which is then donated to Sustainable Coastlines. Phones are sorted into those that can be reused and those which are end-of-life. Reusable phones are sold by tender overseas while end-of-life phones are deconstructed, commoditised and their components used to create other products. This recycling programme not only provides New Zealanders with an environmentally friendly disposal option for their unwanted mobile phone handsets, but also raises awareness of and changes consumer behaviour around responsible disposal of e-waste.

The box is at The Heke and when it's full we send the phones collected off to be recycled, and start filling it up again. So keep your eyes peeled at your office or friend’s place too for old phones - if it’s at the end of its life, it's time to snag a phone to drop in here.
